| MCA ORGANIZATION |
| MEMBERSHIP Members are the heart and soul of the Moscow Civic Association. We are also proud that our membership is drawn from individuals representing ever part of our vibrant community (citizens, business leaders, teachers, students, etc.). Beginning with a core membership of 50 at the founding of our organization in 2002, MCA grew to over 100 members by the Fall of 2004, and by the Spring of 2006 had 258 members in the organization. Each year, membership dues are contributed by members at a rate of $10 for students, $20 for individuals, and $30 for households (FY2007 due rates). Once signed-up, members are placed on a members list serve. In 2002-04, membership funds were used to fund publicity for general meetings and related meeting costs, rental fees for the 1912 Center, member mailings and brochures, and communication costs. Members have full input into organizational decisions and direction and are consulted on the general work of MCA as well as on specific issues through member meetings. In addition to directly contacting Board members by e-mail, members can participate in electronic fora on our homepage. The Board sends out regular announcements to the members through the member list serve. To become a member go to the "join us" section of our website.. BOARD The Board is the major decision-making body of the MCA. While officers are selected by the Board for practical management reasons, they do not have any specific authority over board proceedings or decisions. Ultimately, the Board is accountable to members. The fifteen-member board meets once a month and manages the regular affairs of the MCA through a board list serve. For minutes of the board, go to meetings/board on this homepage. Each board member also takes responsibility for a specific task. Each August, the Board holds a day-long retreat to evaluate the past year's work and to re-energize and identify new directions for MCA. Board members come from the membership; any member can come forward as a candidate and become a Board member following Board approval. Thus, far all candidates who have come forward have been appointed. THE BOARD ALWAYS WELCOMES NEW CANDIDATES!!! ACTION GROUPS Given the importance of member involvement in the affairs of MCA, committees were established from the beginning to work on specific issues. These committees are charged with pursuing specific actions in Moscow politics. Initial committees were proposed and set-up at some of the founding meetings. More than 50 MCA members have come forward to serve on committees. In our first two years the most active committees were Elections and Urgent Issues. For the upcoming year, committees are now called action groups. Current action groups include Elections, Water, Communications, Smart Growth and Good Governance. Members are welcome to participate in any action group. For more information, go to the section marked Action Groups on this homepage.
